AGAPE Christian Counseling

About

Jefferson Avenue has partnered with AGAPE to provide clinical, Christian counseling services. Counseling is one of the simplest ways to achieve a happier, healthier you. When you meet with a clinician for counseling, you’ll have the opportunity to speak openly about any challenges you may be having. Together, you and your counselor, Evan Burns, will work to build a plan and identify the tools to help you tackle any issues and get you back to being your full self.

Evan Burns is an interactive, Christian counselor. His therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. His goal is to provide a space of understanding and compassion while partnering with each individual to help them attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.

We recognize Evan has a dual role at Jefferson.  Confidentiality is an important part of the ministry Evan will be providing.  What you say to him is not something he will share with anyone else unless you specifically want someone to know (like our Elders or other ministers to be aware and praying for).   We have created a space that supports this import aspect and hope you utilize these services if necessary.  We hope this ministry can serve you and your family in the areas of depression, anxiety, motivation, family or marital needs, and any other spiritual or mental health issues.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE COUNSELING MINSTRY

A professional counselor can help with anxiety, depression, grief, marital issues, parent/child relationships, adjustment issues, anger, season of life issues, stress management, boundaries, trauma, spiritual issues, and a host of other things that can disrupt life. Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ offers professional counseling through AGAPE Counseling services at 521 South Jefferson Avenue in Cookeville every Tuesday 9 am to 6 pm.  Our counselor, Evan Burns, is a professional counselor. If you are not aware of what is involved in professional counseling, here is how the process works.

Call the counseling number, 931-528-1006 and leave a call back number and a good time to call you. (Please remember to give your name, your phone number, and to speak clearly.) Our counseling office coordinator, Rachel, will call you back and ask for some basic information about you and the nature of your problem. Then Rachel will work with you to set a time for the first appointment. A parent or guardian can call to begin the counseling process for a minor, but a person cannot set an appointment for another adult.
At the intake appointment, you will be asked to fill out some initial paperwork (this will take about 15 minutes, so either fill it out in advance or come early), and then you will see Evan. In the first session, Evan will ask a lot of questions to find out about the nature of your concern, about you, and about your goals for the counseling process. Once obtainable goals are established, we will begin the process of moving you toward those goals.

Sessions are designed to help illuminate the options in front of you and identify a clear path forward. Sessions will at times be fun, at times be challenging, and at times be a place of motivation, encouragement, and accountability. Depending on what you are wanting to accomplish, the counseling process may only be a few sessions. However, if the nature of the issues to be addressed requires it, it may take longer. All sessions are completely and totally confidential.

The cost of sessions is $15, but we want to make sure that anyone needing counseling can get the help they need regardless of financial circumstances. If you prefer to see another counselor and need financial assistance, please let us know. If you have any questions about the counseling process, please don’t hesitate to call us, and we will help in any way we can.
